it’s been over a week since i’ve written about what’s been going on and as i stare at this screen i’m thinking about all the things i could be doing except writing. in fact, i just went upstairs to rouse stout from his sleep to avoid just to postpone a bit more.
why? i don’t know really. lazy? for sure.
as a friend put it to me not too long ago, it’s not that you’re lazy, it’s just that you aren’t properly motivated.
is there any truth in that? i suppose there is some since it’s been about 2 days when i wrote the first line. meh…
so much has happened. here, i’ll tell it like a picture book…
these two lovely ladies were sick for a week starting about the same time. they had flu b, b being the strain of flu. they were a mess. fevers over 102, body aches and pretty much bed ridden. it was everything i could do to make sure i didn’t get sick. i made sure they washed their hands constantly. didn’t touch anyone or anything in the house unless they showered and walked with a bottle of hand sanitizer. luckily, all us males came out unscathed. that is, until i managed a sinus infection. i believe there wasn’t a correlation.

after the girls were well enough remove themselves from bed and be more human, we got a couple of mechs v minions games in. it was nice to spend this quality time with them. actually, it was just makenna and alex, but at least carolyn was happy to see makenna on her feet again, as was i.
this past sunday (2/26/17) carolyn and i decided to trim up the yard and do some light landscaping. i grumbled the entire weekend bemoaning my displeasure of having to exercise such pedestrian activities especially after waiting on her and the little daughter while they were wasting away with the flu. granted, i didn’t know how fulfilling the labor would be until after we were done and we gazed upon our work… and smiled.
a damn bird flew into the fireplace! it was all i could do to figure out how to remove the glass facade and hope the bird didn’t fly in sheer panic inside the house. fortunately for me, the bird was exhausted from the heat and gas and didn’t even complain when i wrapped the towel around it. i cradled the towel and it into my hand. the bird was breathing so heavily and quickly i thought its poor heart would explode from all the intense pressure. i can’t imagine what the bird was thinking at the time. i placed it outside on the porch and it rolled over on the freshly strewn mulch where it sat for about 15 minutes before it finally flew away. i was genuinely elated the feather beast didn’t get gnawed on by a neighborhood cat.
i chaperoned alex’s class to dc to visit the american and natural history museums. it was a great way to spend the day with my boy and some of his classmates. all of them were pretty awesome and the day went by too fast. it would’ve been nice to spend a bit more time, but i suppose we could make a family trip and visit some of the other museums. it’s very convenient to live so close to the nation’s capital. it’s too bad we don’t take advantage of the close geography more often.

and finally, i took apart the dryer to figure out why it wasn’t heating. turns out it was a bad element, which i speculated was the issue, and now it’s taken apart, separated throughout the family room waiting for the part to arrive tomorrow. i sure hope i remember how i disassembled it…
i’ll finish this now. it’s really been a great week. now if i could only get the fur babies to stop shitting and pissing in the house…
